Owner: City of Muskego
Completion: March 2003
Architect / Engineer: Ruekert & Mielke Engineers, Inc.

Project Description:

What looks like a baseball field but acts like a 1.7 million gallon water storage tank? The McShane Underground Storage Facility was built with 14 million pounds of concrete and 276 tons of reinforcing steel and sits beneath a baseball field in Muskego, Wisconsin.

The 390-foot-long by 40-foot-wide wastewater storage tank was built to solve the chronic basement flooding problems that plagued the area. This storage tank completely eliminated the backup of sewage into basements as well as the bypassing of sewage to streams without losing the recreational usage of valuable municipally-owned lands.
