NORTHSTAR Health System (formerly Iron County Community Hospital) was struggling to remain relevant with an outdated facility. Although the hospital had excess capacity, they were unable to provide the cutting-edge services that the surrounding community demanded. NORTHSTAR recognized the need to reposition themselves by bringing the hospital into the 21st century.
The vision for this 26,000 SF addition and 13,000 SF renovation project was to enhance and expand the hospital’s service offering while improving the quality of the patient-provider experience. As a result of this project, NORTHSTAR Health System has reimagined the healing process and is ‘carving out’ a new niche in “boutique-style” hospitals for Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Key components of the project include: 8 new private patient rooms, expanded imaging, new cancer treatment center, new cafeteria, doubled service space for all hospital functions, staff efficiencies, and the immersion of cutting-edge technology at all key attack points.
