Project Description:

This two-story Army National Guard Readiness Center for the State of Iowa includes offices, Iowa Communications Network (ICN) and training classrooms, weapons storage and vaults, a drill hall with full service kitchen, latrines and locker rooms, physical fitness area, unit supply rooms, indoor vehicle storage area, and a vehicle wash area.

Upon completion, the facility achieved a SPiRiT (Sustainable Project Rating Tool) Gold rating. Sustainable elements include:

  • geothermal energy system for heating and cooling,
  • reduced energy consumption light fixtures with daylighting control systems,
  • daylit work areas reduce need for artificial lighting and reduce energy consumption,
  • an Energy Star-compliant, high-albedo roofing system.

More than 500 soldiers from five Iowa National Guard units are headquartered at the new facility.
