Miron Construction was responsible for rebuilding a 60' x 40' section of spillway on the WPS Merrill dam. This work was completed during the winter. Actual construction started in October 2008 and was finished in March 2009 to take advantage of the spring run-off. To accomplish this project, 450 feet of Porta-Dam was used to block off approximately half of the Wisconsin River.
Three 20-foot sections of the spillway were replaced during the project. The existing piers and base slab were removed and replaced. Approximately 200 yards of the existing fill under the base slab was found to be unusable; this area was over-excavated and new structural fill installed. The new slabs and piers were dowelled into the bedrock under the structure to provide support.
