Owner: State of Wisconsin
Size: 82,000 SF
Completion: September 2006
Architect / Engineer: Strang

Project Description:

The three-story, 82,000 square-foot facility provides Wisconsin and the nation with a state-of-the-art laboratory for animal testing and routine detection of disease and for the protection of the nation’s agricultural interests from foreign animal diseases and bioterrorism.

The facility replaces an outdated 36-year-old lab, and houses new labs for microbiology, pathology-toxicology, and virology and a new lab that will deal with chronic wasting disease.

The facility contains extensive diagnostic laboratory spaces, administrative offices, necropsy, conferencing spaces, and laboratory support. The facility also includes a self-contained Biological Safety Level 3 laboratory that expands the laboratory’s capability to work with infectious organisms.
