Growing concerns over the impact tariffs may have on the construction business prompted the Decorah Community School Board to hold a two-hour work session June 5 to brainstorm ways to reduce costs for the district’s new elementary school, which is slated to replace the current John Cline Elementary building.

A spokesman from Cedar Rapids-based Miron Construction, the school district’s construction manager, indicated the tariffs on imports related to construction materials and equipment could significantly increase project costs. He said supply chain delays could also make it necessary to for Decorah Schools to expedite some facets of the project.
