Menasha, Wis. – Miron Construction Co., Inc. received the Wisconsin Family Business of the Year grand award in the large-company category for employers with more than 100 workers. The award was presented to Miron in Madison on May 13, 2010. The Award is sponsored by Smith & Gesteland, LLP, a CPA and consulting firm; DeWitt Ross & Stevens SC, a law firm; and Associated Bank.
Miron, a Neenah-based construction firm, is owned by the Voss and Kippenhan families. Miron is now managed by the third generation, David G. Voss, president and chief executive officer and Tim Kippenhan, vice president and chief operating officer. Voss also has four children who work in the business. Founded in 1918 by Patrick Miron, Miron Construction has grown to be one of Wisconsin’s largest general contracting firms.

The Family Firm Institute reports more than 80 percent of all businesses in North America are family-owned. Nearly 35 percent of Fortune 500 companies are family firms. Family businesses account for 78 percent of all new job creation, 60 percent of the nation’s employment and 50 percent of the GDP, the institute said.
The Wisconsin Family Business of the Year Award was created to highlight and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of family businesses that make an impact on the Wisconsin business community. Winners were selected by an independent panel of judges from nominations submitted by the companies.
