Bringing Construction Careers to Life: Inside Miron’s Construction Career Works Events
At Miron, we believe the best way to inspire the next generation of builders is to go beyond telling them about the trades and actually show them what’s possible. That’s exactly what our Construction Career Works events are designed to do.
Over the past several months, we’ve hosted three immersive experiences for students interested in construction careers, with events in Beloit, Wis. at the Ho-Chunk casino project, Eau Claire, Wis. at our satellite office, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa at our satellite office. Each one was a little different, but the goal stayed the same: give students a real, hands-on look at what a future in construction can be.
more than 100 Students in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Miron was proud to host a Construction Career Works Experience in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, giving more than 100 high school students a hands-on look at what a future in construction can offer.
Held at the Tiffin Community Recreation Center project, the experience featured interactive stations led by members of Team Miron and trade partners, including heavy equipment, masonry, carpentry, virtual construction, project management, and more. Students had the opportunity to step onto an active project site, ask questions, and learn directly from industry professionals about the many career paths available in construction.
Learning by Doing in Eau Claire
The Construction Career Works Experience is built around the idea that students learn best when they can see it, touch it, and try it themselves. At each event, students rotated through interactive stations that brought different aspects of the industry to life.
They had the chance to operate heavy equipment, build sections of masonry walls, and learn how to safely lift and place materials. They explored how cutting-edge technology like Building Information Modeling and robotic total stations are used to plan and execute projects. And they got a firsthand look at how steel, precast, and carpentry all come together on a project site. Students also spent time learning about project management and risk management, helping them understand that there are just as many opportunities in the office as there are in the field.
On the project site in Beloit
In Beloit, students experienced something especially impactful: stepping onto an active project site at the Ho-Chunk casino project, where they could see the scale, coordination, and teamwork required to bring a major project to life. This is an incredibly large and complex project site, so the participating students were truly immersed in what a day in the life of a construction worker could be like.
What sets Construction Career Works apart is the level of immersion. This isn’t a walkthrough or a lecture. It’s a chance for students to step into the work, ask questions, and learn directly from the people who do it every day. Whether they’re trying their hand at laying brick, stepping into the cab of a piece of equipment, or watching a steel connection come together, they’re experiencing the industry in a way that sticks. It’s also an opportunity for students to start picturing themselves in these roles, and to see that there are many different paths within construction, each one offering the chance to build something meaningful.
Powered by People
These events don’t happen without the people behind them.
We’re incredibly grateful to the Miron team members and trade partners who take the time to mentor, teach, and share their experiences with students. Their willingness to answer questions, demonstrate their craft, and encourage curiosity is what makes these events so impactful.
We’re also thankful to our clients who open their doors and job sites to make this kind of learning possible. Giving students access to real projects adds a level of authenticity and excitement that you simply can’t replicate in a classroom.
Building What’s Next
Construction Career Works is about more than one day. It’s about building connections, opening doors, and helping students see a future in an industry that offers purpose, stability, and opportunity. We’re proud to go beyond the basics to create experiences that truly immerse students in the trades, and we’re just getting started. As we continue to grow this program, we look forward to reaching even more students and helping shape the next generation of builders.
