Gearing up for summer – the 400 Block project

The warm weather is officially upon us, and summer plans are in full swing. Here in Wausau, we’ve been working hard on the downtown city square project in anticipation of a full summer of fun family events.
SquareUp, a committee formed by community volunteers, organized a campaign in 2009 to raise more than $1 million in private money to pay for enhancements to the square. The City of Wausau also contributed money for the cost of preparing the property for construction. Parts of construction were also made possible through in-kind donations.
We broke ground on the redevelopment of the square in October 2010. Work began with the installation of storm sewer and electrical systems. The project also includes a permanent stage, walkways through the square, a canopy and sound system, landscaping and a water fountain.
The space will serve as a community gathering center. The city square will host Art in the Park, a weekly farmers’ market, concerts by local and traveling musicians and groups, festivals, dance and ballet performances, youth activities, ethnic heritage events, movie nights and club/organizational events.
It’s clear that this project has been a Wausau community dream for some time, and Miron Construction is proud to be a part of bringing that dream to life.
