Miron Construction’s Cedar Rapids Office Earns LEED v4 Certification

Posted on Apr 16, 2019 by Sustainability

Miron-Cedar Rapids Office-5Miron Construction Co., Inc. put down roots in the Cedar Rapids area in 2003, renting office space in a small strip mall. In 2015, the company decided to construct a new facility, not only to increase operational efficiencies and allow easier access to project sites, but to continue its commitment to grow its presence within the Cedar Rapids community.

As a proponent of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Miron believes in sustainable building practices. The Cedar Rapids office earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 Certification, making it the first building in the state of Iowa to receive the certification.

Project Profile

The 11,884-square-foot building is a high-performing, healthy, modern office that showcases Miron’s capabilities and quality craftsmanship, and reflects the company’s more than 100-year-old heritage and culture. The one-story, open-concept office space is meant to encourage collaboration, communication, and transparency. The office features green initiatives with more than 86% of the building being naturally daylit, an energy-efficient geothermal system that serves heat pumps with electric auxiliary heat, low-flush and low-flow plumbing fixtures, and outdoor vegetation featuring turf grass and native/adaptive landscape.

Dedication Event

In conjunction with the Cedar Rapids office earning LEED certification, Miron hosted the USGBC Iowa’s Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. The free event kicked off with an annual celebration luncheon, during which USGBC Iowa recognized past and current Market Leadership Advisory Board Members and the projects that have been awarded LEED certification.

The event also included a tour of Miron’s newly certified office and educational opportunities to learn more about LEED v4 as well as Fitwel, a building rating system that provides guidelines on how to design and operate healthier buildings.

The day’s events closed with the Miron LEED v4 dedication celebration, along with an open house showcasing the beautiful Cedar Rapids office.
