It’s not unusual to hear a child talking about what he/she wants to be when they grow up. While doctor, teacher and firefighter often top the list, there are countless other careers that can be just as exciting and just as fulfilling. One industry that many kids and parents overlook is construction. That’s why Quarry Quest is such a fantastic event for kids of all ages. It provides attendees with the opportunity to learn more about the industry and the countless careers associated with it.

Quarry Quest is the ultimate fun-filled family event comprised of construction, excavation, hands-on activities and adventure. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, September 17 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to get your hands dirty, but proceeds also benefit numerous local children’s charities and the Quarry Quest Environmental Education Fund. In fact, over the last 13 years the event has raised more than $900,000!

Kids and adults alike will learn the art of digging, sifting and building with countless hands-on educational activities, such as Cooking Up a City (make your own concrete), Prospecting for Fool’s Gold (pan for golden nuggets of pyrite, find a gold coin and win a prize!), Great Gravel (create your own “pebble pet”) and Fest Quest (spin the Festival Foods wheel to win gift cards and other terrific prizes or simply take a ride in their giant shopping cart).

Really, how often do you or your kids get the chance to tour a quarry and ride in giant construction equipment (haul trucks, blasting excavators, colossal cranes and blazing off-road jeeps)? With food and beverage stands located throughout the quarry and cost-effective admission, you can stay all day and play. For more information on the event, please visit www.quarryquest.com.

Stay tuned for information regarding what’s new at Quarry Quest in 2011!
