Abbott expansion, park signage reviewed by planning board

A site-plan review was approved Tuesday for an expansion project at Abbott Nutrition in Sturgis.
Sturgis Planning Commission approved the plan, which calls for a soil erosion control project, a distribution center truck parking area, truck staging area and a tracking pad for vehicles to return to North Clay Street. The proposal, presented as “Project Penta,” calls for the development near the intersection of Clay and Lafayette streets, where a storage building at 501 W. Lafayette St. recently was razed.
Miron Construction plans to start Oct. 25 with erosion control measures on the lot. A driveway from Clay Street will be constructed, with preliminary completion expected in late November.
