Portage armory addition on track for summer opening

Weekend drills and full-time personnel will be back at the Wisconsin Army National Guard armory in Portage in August.

“We’re getting ready to pour the floors on the two additions,” said Jason Ballweg, job site supervisor for the Miron Construction project.

Last year, the State Building Commission approved a $6 million addition and renovation project to enlarge the Portage armory to meet National Guard standards.

The 12,223-square-foot facility at 2425 W. Wisconsin St. houses the 132nd Support Battalion’s headquarters but is only 28 percent of the space that can be required by National Guard Bureau criteria.
