Miron Construction employees see improvements in sustainable behaviors
Neenah, Wis. – Miron Construction Co., Inc. has always been committed to sustainability, leading by example through community education, corporate culture and practical construction solutions. One year ago, Miron Construction, in partnership with Cool Choices, launched iChoose, a sustainability game for Miron employees. More than 200 of Miron’s 330 employees participated in the game which resulted in a greater awareness and acceptance of sustainability.
“Before iChoose, Miron employees said they wanted to learn more about sustainable choices they could make at home,” said Theresa Lehman, director of sustainable services. “Miron had a well-established corporate commitment to sustainability, but the employees wanted to learn how their families could make a difference in their everyday lives. We couldn’t be happier with the results.”
Participants reported changes in their personal efforts on sustainability. These changes included increases in their level of activity to save energy in the home, water at home and gasoline on the road. More than half of the participants are now more likely to turn off unused lights and equipment at work.
The iChoose game is already yielding big results. Collectively, Miron employees are on track to reduce electricity use by 18 percent compared to typical households. That translates into savings of more than $100,000 and 1.2 million pounds of carbon emissions.
