Communities Strong, Miron Strong

Posted on Aug 21, 2019 by Community

Being part of the communities in which we live and work is at the heart of Miron Construction. Beyond our well-known hallmark Build Like a Girl event, our employees volunteer at many worthy organizations throughout the state, throughout the year. Here’s a snapshot of what the volunteers of Team Miron have been up to lately:

Feed the Body, Feed the Soul
In one day, a group of caring people, including a small army of Miron volunteers, packed more than 200,000 pounds of rice, beans, and pasta to help Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin serve more than 400,000 people through 600 member agencies in 36 counties.

You’ll find our hard work, as well as some light-hearted moments, on display here.

United Way Intern DayUnited Way Fox Cities Intern Day
Several Miron interns attended United Way Fox Cities Emerging Leaders Intern Day at our corporate office. In addition to hearing from a panel of Fox Cities young professionals about opportunities and challenges in the community, the group assembled care kits for kids served by The Samaritan Counseling Center. The event reached its goal of connecting and inspiring the soon-to-be young professionals of the Fox Cities to make the community a better place to live.

“One of the things that’s been great about Miron Construction is that when they’re in, they’re ALL in,” said Sandy Drexler, vice president of resource development at United Way Fox Cities. Hear more on what Sandy has to say about Miron’s commitment to the United Way, and her experience working with Miron during our annual campaign and other community events here.

Make-A-Wish Golf for Wishes golf outing
In mid-July, several project managers volunteered for the Make-A-Wish Wisconsin Golf for Wishes golf outing, a wonderful experience where all proceeds go to making wishes come true for children with critical illnesses. Emma Klister, the regional coordinator for Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, said:

“I had numerous people come up to me and rave about how amazing and hard working the Miron volunteers were! Large events like this would truly not be possible without the help of volunteers. I can’t thank you enough for not only donating your time, but for going above and beyond in your roles! You are playing a huge role in making wishes come true!”

Habitat for Humanity of Dane County
Members of our Madison office teamed up with other Habitat for Humanity of Dane County volunteers for Frame Up on the Square. The event raised awareness for affordable housing with volunteers building two Habitat house frames on the street outside of the Dane County Farmers’ Market at Capitol Square.

Miron supported the Salvation Army of Dane County’s Summer Kettle Campaign’s one and only match day, where we matched all proceeds donated on Saturday, July 20. In addition to the match, several of our Madison team members rang bells throughout the city, volunteering their time to raise Christmas in July funds for the Salvation Army, which helps to overcome poverty, provide housing, empower youth, help disaster survivors and more.

Renew the Blue Volunteer Day
Miron is proud to be a partner of Clean Lakes Alliance. As part of our local involvement, members of our Madison team recently partnered with State Bank of Cross Plains for Renew the Blue Volunteer Day at Tenney Park. The crew raked and spread native seeds, pulled and cut invasive species and overgrowth, and picked up trash.

Recently, members of our Wausau team plated dinners for the veterans flying out on the 36th annual Never Forgotten Honor Flight from Central Wisconsin Airport, which took one World War II veteran, seven Korean War veterans and 102 Vietnam War era veterans to Washington D.C. to experience their memorials at no cost to the veterans.

United Way of Marathon County’s Smack Hunger event
Members of our Wausau team also volunteered their time at the 5th annual United Way of Marathon County’s Smack Hunger event. They joined more than 325 volunteers packaging more than 48,000 servings of delicious and nutritious trail mix. Partnering with the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, the bags of trail mix were distributed to Marathon County agencies after the event.

Dudley Tower Tailgate Party fundraiser
Since 2012, our Wausau office has hosted the Dudley Tower tailgate party, an annual event that involves all the businesses in the Dudley Tower, as well as surrounding businesses, local major subcontractors and suppliers, and field staff of area job sites. The party is a great opportunity for entertainment, comradery and collaboration, but it also serves a larger purpose – fundraising for Wausau area kids and families in need. Funds raised at the tailgate party have helped purchase gifts for the kids who attend the Wausau Children’s Christmas Party. This includes toys, clothing, shoes and winter items such as jackets, snow pants, boots, mittens and hats. Additional money generated from the tailgate party have also been distributed to the Salvation Army of Wausau.

United Way of East Central Iowa’s Day of Caring
As part of United Way of East Central Iowa’s Day of Caring, members of our Cedar Rapids office did some landscaping for Waypoint Services, an organization that is dedicated to moving people forward through proactive services and resources including homeless and housing services, domestic violence victim services, and high quality, affordable child care. Day of Caring is one of the largest organized volunteer events in Cedar Rapids.

Earlier this summer, members of our Eau Claire office volunteered at Feed My People Food Bank, repacking bulk food, sorting food donations, and packing weekend meals for kids. Feed My People serves 14 counties in west central Wisconsin. In 2018, it reached nearly 70,000 people through 125+ hunger-relief agencies.
