Miron Celebrates 24 Young Adults Taking Next Step in Construction Careers

Posted by Miron Construction

It was an exciting day in our corporate office as we celebrated 24 students taking the next step in their construction careers. This celebration highlighted the multiple phases of the beginning of a construction career including: the bridging of youth apprentices to registered (union) apprentices; youth apprentices transitioning into full-time roles; youth apprentices beginning their second year of training; and new youth apprentices beginning their training.

Career Signing Day is a time for high school and college graduates to officially begin employment with a construction contractor who will sponsor them throughout their registered apprenticeship and provide on-the-job training. Along with on-the-job training, these registered apprentices will receive classroom instruction from their designated union training center as part of their apprenticeship. This celebration honors both graduate and contractor, providing a pivotal moment in the life of a student.

Below is the list of young adults that were highlighted during the event:

  • Youth apprentices bridging to registered apprentices:
    • Owen Ackerman | Hortonville High School | Carpentry Apprentice
    • Dominick Donabar | Winneconne High School | Operators Apprentice

Five of the new registered apprentices signed with the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters and one signed with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139.

Students like them continue to choose the trades for the importance of the work they provide for all of society, for the rewarding profession it offers, and for the opportunity to learn and build a career.

The nine new youth apprentices will start in late summer and work throughout the 2025-26 school year. In the last two years, Miron’s youth apprenticeship program has grown more than 89% and now extends to Miron’s satellite offices.

The construction industry had 459,000 job openings throughout the U.S. in Nov. 2023, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Youth and union apprentices not only gain meaningful work experience that sets them up for success in the future, but they also add to the talent pipeline of skilled, diverse employees that innovate the workforce.
