“Zen Den” to be built at Wisconsin high school
In the Fox Cities Region, 12% of high school students attempted suicide in the past year. After learning from a local district that there was an urgent need to create a safe physical space inside Appleton East High School, where students could take time for a mental, emotional or physical health break, a group of individuals from Leadership Fox Cities (including Eric Marcoe, Miron’s Dream Coach) set out to help create a space that would allow students the opportunity to relieve stress and mental fatigue. Highlights of this projected $80,000 “serene, warm, welcoming space” include: a green “living” wall; comfortable seating area for students, parents and guests; replacement of ceiling tile with added sound absorption; new flooring, freshly painted pale-blue walls, calming images and soft music; a “Sources of Strength” wall graphic; coffee bar; and coloring books and games.
