Neenah, Wis.Miron Construction Co., Inc.’s Director of Sustainable Services, Theresa Lehman, will be representing the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and the construction industry during a briefing on Capitol Hill on February 28th.

Lehman will be briefing members of Congress and Congressman Ron Kind’s Energy & Environmental Task Force on the economic benefits of efficient, high performance buildings. She will also be holding one-on-one meetings with Wisconsin and Michigan representatives and senators to discuss the benefits of sustainable construction, and in particular, how it has generated revenue and created/maintained jobs for Miron during the economic downturn.

“While many of our clients initially seek LEED certification because they want to experience the economic benefits, they quickly realize the other triple bottom line benefits such as increased productivity and the attraction and retention of employees,” Lehman said. “At Miron, we believe in the benefits of the triple bottom line—people, planet and payback—because we have been able to experience it firsthand. We’re honored to be invited by USGBC to represent the construction industry for this important discussion.”

“Miron’s LEED project portfolio includes 50 projects, of which 33 have been awarded LEED certification,” Lehman went on to state. “Our sustainable projects are successful because they are driven by our qualified team of more than 100 credentialed LEED professionals in collaboration with our design-build partners. We’re excited to educate members of Congress on our clients’ success stories regarding LEED and for the opportunity to share our own success story as a major employer in Wisconsin. Our political leaders have to make major decisions regarding policy and incentives focused on sustainability, and if we can be a resource that leads to well-informed decisions, we are happy to do so.”
