Miron Construction participates in National Safety Stand-down
Miron Construction Co., Inc., is proud to once again be partnering with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and 3M for the 2017 National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction, occurring May 8-12. This is the third year that Miron has taken the initiative to participate in the stand-down on all jobsites for all Miron employees as well as subcontractors. The 3M fall-protection demonstration will be presented by Patrick Harel. Harel is considered one of the nation’s leading experts on fall protection and is a valuable resource to the construction industry throughout the Midwest.
Falls continue to be the leading cause of death for workers in the construction industry. In 2015, 350 of the 937 construction worker fatalities were caused by preventable falls, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall-hazard awareness across the country in an effort to halt fall fatalities and injuries. A safety stand-down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety, in this case focusing on fall hazards and reinforcing the importance of fall prevention.
Harel will present at six Miron jobsites in Wisconsin this year: Appleton, Milwaukee, Sheboygan Falls, Stevens Point, Wausau and Wittenberg. In addition, Miron is teaming up with OSHA consultation services throughout Wisconsin and the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area to teach, coach and mentor all site workers on fall hazards and prevention. Miron plans to achieve 100 percent worker participation in the 2017 OSHA Fall Protection Safety Stand-Down again this year.
