Miron Construction Co., Inc. recently partnered with the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District to host a two-part masonry course to educate and build interest in the trade. During this two-day course, 13 students were exposed to masonry through hands-on and classroom training by Miron masons and superintendents. Their instruction included an overview of the necessary tools and materials needed to work with masonry products, how to mix mortar, lay a variety of bricks and other fundamentals.

Here at Miron, the success of our business relies on all of our passionate employees going above and beyond to bring our vision statement to life. A huge part of that success is realized through the hard work occurring on our project sites each day. We know the importance of these careers in the skilled trades, and that is why we loved teaching about masonry to these Chippewa Falls students. Skilled trades are critical to our future as a whole, and technical training in the skilled trades is a wise move for many students.

“What stood out the most from the Miron employees was the pure professionalism they displayed while instructing these young students.” said Tom Schradle CFMS technical education teacher. “At no time did any mason appear to lose patience or show any frustration. In fact, I would say it appeared quite the opposite. The masons shared their craft as if they were teaching their own children. The care that the masons showed our students was nothing short of extraordinary.”

The first day of the event was spent teaching the students the basics of masonry skills, tools, how masonry is used on the job site. During the second day, a mason was paired with two students and shared their trade through helping them lay blocks and bricks on mock walls all while utilizing the student’s new skills.

Miron serves as the general contractor for the District’s major projects at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
