Construction, excavation and adventure: Quarry Quest is back!
Does a day of construction, excavation and adventure sound exciting to you? You’re in luck – Quarry Quest is right around the corner! On September 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., children and adults alike will be entertained as they explore the inner-workings of a real quarry with hands-on educational activities including treasure hunts, fossil finds, rock-inspired arts and crafts and much, much more.
Even if you’ve been to Quarry Quest before, you’ll not only be able to visit some of your favorite spots, but also get to know some new ones, including:
- Pebble Picking – The rocks here are from all over Wisconsin: dolostone from the east, red granite from the north and schist from the north and northwest. Dig through the pile and make your own rock collection.
- Stones in the field – Aggregates aren’t just for construction. They play an important role in many athletic and recreational activities, too.
- What’s next? – What happens to a quarry after it has been depleted of its resources? Get a better understanding of Wisconsin’s statewide reclamation program and the many redevelopment uses.
And for the third year in a row, Krieger Jewelers of Appleton has donated a beautiful piece of jewelry for the Diamond Dig. This year, participants will get the chance to dig for the grand prize – a 2.25-quarter karat princess cut diamond ring valued at $10,000!
All money raised at Quarry Quest goes to benefit local children’s charities and the Quarry Quest Environmental Education Fund. The event has raised more than $1.2 million in the last 14 years
