Miron Meets Mudder
Tough Mudder Wisconsin is not your typical race. There are no clocks and no winners – just a 10-12 mile mud and obstacle course that takes every bit of physical and mental strength participants can muster to complete. Some call it challenging. Most call it crazy, but one Miron Construction employee is hoping a group of his co-workers will call it inspiring as they strive to cross the finish line in October.
Earlier this year, Royce Alsbach, vice president of project management at Miron, challenged members of the Miron team to join him for the 2016 Tough Mudder Wisconsin. The group will train together, race together, and drink beer together at the finish line. “This year will be my fourth event and it’s something for me to work for throughout the year. My hope is that it gives others inspiration to get into shape and stay that way for the entire year,” says Alsbach. Fourteen employees have accepted his challenge and will race alongside him in the Tough Mudder and Tough Mudder Half events on October 1 and 2 in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
With obstacles titled “Arctic Enema” and “Electroshock Therapy,” the Tough Mudder can be a hard race to prepare for. To help our Mirun-ners be successful, the group has the opportunity to participate in bi-weekly training sessions which began in mid-May. These sessions feature activities to boost both stamina and strength.
Finding motivation, however, will be up to the individuals. For Alsbach, it all comes down to family, both his personal one and his professional one. This year will be his first year participating with all of his children, which is a “dream come true” in his book. He is also excited to have a solid contingent of Mirun-ners joining him on this unique adventure.
