Milwaukee, Wis. – Miron Construction Co., Inc. has not only been named as general contractor for The Ability Center, but will also play an additional role as part of the center’s management team.

“This role illustrates our commitment to both this project and our continued involvement in the greater Milwaukee community,” says Bob Simi, vice president of business development for Miron.

A non-profit entity, The Ability Center is an innovative new concept for providing fitness, athletic and recreational programming for both the able and disabled to be active, play sports and participate more fully in life.

The Ability Center is the brainchild of Damian Buchman, a two-time survivor of osteosarcoma, a rare and deadly bone cancer that left Buchman with an ambulatory disability. Buchman was diagnosed as a teenager and has been in remission since 1993. Buchman’s vision for the center was established in 2009, and the project won the 2011 Marquette University Business Plan Competition’s “Best Social Plan.”

Fundraising efforts for the $53-million project have started, and construction is likely to begin in 2014, if fundraising goals are achieved. The Ability Center will begin serving clients in 2015.

In addition to Simi, who works out of Miron’s Milwaukee office, The Ability Center’s project management team includes Ric Miller of Collgate-based Ric Miller Construction Consulting LLC; Kevin Barry of Milwaukee-based Cassidy Turley Barry; and Josh Morby of Milwaukee-based Nation Consulting.
