Project Overview

The first phase of this 25,321 square-foot facility includes a 400-seat sanctuary, narthex gathering space, office space, and a full lower level used as a social hall and for religious education. The new church was sited to preserve the open natural space and oriented to allow more exposure to the north and south sunlight, controlling the east and west sun. To minimize the footprint, it was designed with a walk-out lower level to accommodate future education and kitchen space. Concrete used for the parking and access drives was specified to reflect sunlight, and was minimized such that it did not exceed the local zoning ordinance.

The building envelope and energy-efficient lighting and lighting controls system as well as a geothermal heating and cooling system resulted in a 28% energy cost reduction compared to a code-compliant building. Low-flow plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption more than 34% compared to conventional fixtures.
